"The Western Cape - where I rediscover good hunting" - Basie Maartens

logoimageedit 2 9012790076Between the blue mountains of the Cederberg a mere stone’s throw from Cape Town lies a unique opportunity to experience an African hunt like no other. Here between some of the finest wine producing vineyards is a wide-ranging concession of meticulously conserved mountain fynbos that has been maturing like finest red in your cellar. Let's uncork it together.

Western Cape of South Africa is home to the biodiversity rich fynbos biome. Over 9000 species of flowering plants occur here - 80% of which occur nowhere else in the world. To behold the fynbos and flowering proteas alone are special enough to draw thousands of tourists to the Cape. Coupled with the opportunity of visiting a world heritage site and natural wonder of the world - Table Mountain - and you can see why Cape Town has been one of the most visited tourist cities in the world. Now imagine adding your hunting passion to this in an area you have never before experienced in the most scenic surroundings South Africa can show off and you have the Western Cape experience.

Onto the hunting in the picturesque Cape and amongst several others there are two highly sought-after species with excellent trophy quality to pursue – both are as unique as the surrounding habitat: the Cape Grysbuck and Vaal Rhebuck. Both have intrigued and subsequently quite often frustrated many a hunter. Here in our new Western Cape concession we have the highest density of these two species we have seen in decades. And the trophy quality is exceptional as this area has never been commercially hunted and only one Vaal Rhebuck ram has been hunted here.  Careful preservation, years of under-utilization and successful predator control means you can look forward to 2020 as the year you successfully hunt a trophy Vaal Rhebuck and Cape Grysbuck with Maartens Safarisbefore.

Accommodation on your Western Cape Experience while Vaal Rhebuck hunting places you in a newly renovated, fully equipped guest house. Stylish and sophisticated with all the necessary amenities. On the outdoor patio meals are served under the shade of grape vines. On warmer Cape days you can look forward to cooling off in the pool. The newly renovated bathroom facilities offer both shower and bath options for relaxing after a day’s hunting. Naturally, fine wines can be uncorked every evening fire-side as we reflect on the day together.

The Western Cape experience is unique in that it offers a multitude of activities to be enjoyed along with the hunt. With Cape Town only two hours away, we have used our years of on-the-ground experience to seek out the very best this life-list destination has to offer you, your family & friends. Table Mountain – a natural wonder of the world – can be enjoyed on foot or cable car, visiting Cape Point where the two oceans meet, exploring the many beaches of the Cape and perhaps discovering the Boulder’s Beach Penguin Colony are but a few of the many pleasures the Western Cape Experience offers. For those who enjoy a cultural experience, a tour of Robben Island, where Mr Nelson Mandela was imprisoned is also at your fingertips. Finally, for the fine wine connoisseur or those who aspire to be such, the Cape Winelands await, with more award-winning wine cellars than we can count. All of these attractions – and many more – can be toured with private guide and vehicle with Maartens Safaris. We will also ensure you are comfortably accommodated in style in your choice of Waterfront hotel, beach-front villa or vineyard guesthouse.
